Welcome to Lindsey’s Life!

Life is short, and it is here to be lived.

Kate Winslet

Welcome to my life! I am Lindsey, and this is a working blog about my life, family, and things I love most. Thank you for joining me on this journey. Feel free to reach out on social media or by email at any time. I love to hear if you relate to my journey, find humor in my lifelong anecdotes, or seek solace in the fact that you are not alone! No matter your reason for following my life blog, I am happy to share some of my craziest, funniest, and most shareable moments of my life… so far.

Here’s the jist to help you decide if you want to read more: It all started in “the 1900s” as my children would say…I was born and raised in Michigan’s #1 tourist town, Frankenmuth. I grew up the youngest of 3 girls and was lucky enough to have happily married parents (still together for over 50 years and probably the epitome of a perfect working relationship) with a loving extended family that lived all the way on the other side of the state a whole 3 hours away (I say jokingly because I now live in Texas and it takes an hour just to get to the next town…and which 3 hours seemed like eternity when you traveled squished in the middle of said sisters the entire drive to see family every holiday.) I played sports and tried hard at academics to graduate with honors. My senior year of high school marked the beginning of a love for travel (not in a mini-van smooshed between sisters listening to “oldies” and playing the guessing game) and throughout college, where I studied Biosysytems engineering (yes, it’s a “real” engineering degree, thank you) at Michigan State University. I graduated in 2002 with Bachelors of Science in Biosystems Engineering with a cognate in Natural Resources and Environment. Try writing that on a resume…then explaining it to the interviewer! Yep…it went about as well as you think. But my father was very proud. I now bleed green, and that will never change.

But, alas, as most young women discovering the world do, I was itching to express my passion for fashion. So, I traveled to Los Angeles, California, to attend the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) against my father’s wishes (even though he already said I could be anything I wanted when I was 4-years-old… remember that cliché?!) However, the joke was on me when my roommate unknowingly introduced me to my future husband, and we have now been together for almost 2 decades.

Once I graduated, we immediately got married, moved to Florida, and had our first baby in 2005. If that wasn’t enough “life changes” in our first year we decided to also start a business that would be our sole income, and buy a house in the market boom/crash of 2007-2008. We were so smart, just like every young couple thinks they are!

We proceded to have more children right away and pretty much founded the new trend: 3 under 3! Too bad Instagram wasn’t around then…I could have totally made a mark! Ha!

But wait…there’s more! Once the housing crash hit, we decided to move to Texas and start over with a new business, remodel a 1940s home, and raise these 3 small children in 2010. There, I started teaching yoga and Pilates and started to grow a following in our small town. But, we needed more income stability and benefits, so in 2012, I started to work at a nuclear power plant with a rotating shift schedule. (If you don’t know what that is… I’m sure there will be a blog post about it in the near future. Sign up for our newsletter to be the first to know when it publishes.) As you can imagine, this is not a conducive schedule for a mother and her small children or for her husband who now has to pick up the extra load of 2 parents…so,clearly the answer would be to have 2 more children!

In 2016 and 2018, our little girls were born, but not without suffering a miscarriage in between. Trying to battle the mom guilt and constant struggle between being a “working mother” and a “stay at home mom,” I decided to start a home based boutique business making, painting, sewing, and buying so many cute things! Then, Covid-19 hits, the business closes, and we all hibernate for 2 years! During this time, people are asking me for my home remedies, yoga exercises to do at home, where to buy those pajamas they saw in my latest social media post, and how to stay sane with 4 kids in school and a breastfeeding toddler?!

So, as we emerge to our new normal, my busy hands need to accomplish something in this short, short life, and apparently, I’ve acquired some knowledge along the way! So, boom! Here we are already at 2023! Raising 5 children and almost 2 decades of marriage, living in few different states and homes, earning 2 degrees, a handful of certifications, a few old internships, a career attempt or two, and a multitude of failed businesses has brought me a litany of literature for your entertainment! It’s time I write it all down and mark it for posterity to learn from… or laugh at! It’s totally up to you!

I hope you continue to follow my blog and enjoy the journey, gain some random knowledge, attempt a new craft, try a new style, find some deals on items you love and just live your life to the fullest because, as we all know, life is so very short…we might as well enjoy it today!

  2. Well I’ve know you through all of the life changes, and we’re so very proud of making the most of it all. You’re a wonderful mommy and wife. Your children are lucky to have you be their mommy, as is David to have such a beautiful and talented wife. I can’t wait to read more, especially the funny stuff that a mom of 5 has. Keep up the great work, smarty pants.
